KSDK -- At least one person was shot Thursday night during a convenience store robbery, the Cahokia Police Department said.

According to police, the robbery occurred just before 7 p.m. at the Best Stop on Camp Jackson Road in East St. Louis.

Three men entered the store while a fourth may have waited in the car. Investigators said the men robbed the store at gunpoint then turned their weapons on an innocent bystander who happened to be shopping in the store. He was shot in the leg.

The suspects continued to shoot as they left the store, hitting the side window of an SUV. Police believe the victim was simply in the wrong place when this all went down.

"As far as we know, they were robbing him as well and he got shot in the process," said Sgt. Keith Bowers of the Cahokia Police Department. "It was not a serious shot. He is expected to recover as far as we know. We are looking for three suspects that were in the store. A fourth may have been in the vehicle."

Authorities said the store does have surveillance video. They're hoping that made lead to their suspects.

Authorities believe the suspects drove off in a silver-colored Nissan. Anyone with information is asked call CrimeStoppers at 866-371-TIPS.
