St. Clair County, Ill. (KSDK) -- Some people with minor arrest warrants will soon be getting a break in St. Clair County, Illinois.
An Arrest Warrant Amnesty day is scheduled for Saturday, July 24. St. Clair County's State Attorney, Robert Haida said his county has more than 40,000 arrests pending.
St Clair County is asking anyone with an outstanding arrest warrant connected to a St. Clair County Circuit Court traffic, misdemeanor, or local ordinance offense to take advantage of the day. Each person will get their arrest warrants annulled and receive a new court date.
"This is not a free pass, but rather a way for the court system to administer these matters in a more expeditious manner," said Haida. While most cases are for minor offenses, this is necessary because the system has been clogged to the point where it cannot be easily managed.
The event will be held at New Life Community Church, 1919 State Street in East St. Louis, Illinois from 8:00 a.m. until noon.
