Sullivan, Mo (KSDK) -- People in Sullivan, Missouri are morning the loss of 19-year-old Daniel Schatz.
Schatz was driving the pick-up truck that was crushed between the semi and a school bus in a chain-reaction accident on Interstate 44 Thursday morning.
Friends of Schatz gathered at Temple Baptist Church in Sullivan to pray for his family after hearing of his death. They say that's where Daniel could be found every week on Sunday mornings. Schatz even volunteered for several mission trips with the church.
Schatz was known throughout the area as a star quarterback for the Sullivan High School football team. Schatz was even able to walk on at Mizzou as a freshman, and friends say he planned to play this season with his brother at Westminster College in Fulton.
"People can define him by different things, and they know him by the football he played," says Bradley Perry who grew up with Schatz. "But the main focus was Jesus Christ, and we know that under these tragic circumstances we know that he is in heaven right now."
The Schatz family has known tragedy before. In the early 90's six members of the extended family were lost in a murder, suicide.
Schatz's father, Dave, just this past week was the winner in the Republican Primary for a Missouri House seat in the 111th District.
