St. Louis, MO (KSDK) -- Traffic was tied up along northbound Interstate 270 following a three vehicle accident Friday afternoon which claimed the life of an infant.
The accident occurred at 3:50 p.m., about a tenth of a mile south of Highway 40, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
One vehicle, driven by 30-year-old Edin Demirovic, was traveling northbound on I-270 in the fourth lane. He attempted to change lanes and crossed into the path of another car, driven by 47-year-old Dale Merz. The back end of the first vehicle struck the front of the second car.
The impact caused the front of Demirovic's car to strike the third vehicle involved, driven by 47-year-old Darryl Wilson. The third vehicle was in the same lane as vehicle two.
Demirovic's wife and son were in the car at the time of the accident. The 24-year-old woman suffered serious injuries. The boy, an infant, was taken to St. John's Mercy Medical Center in Creve Coeur, where he later died.
No one in the second vehicle suffered any injuries.
Everyone involved in the accident, including the deceased, was wearing their seatbelt.
