St. Louis (KSDK) -- Hall of Fame Baseball Manager Whitey Herzog said he hopes the St. Louis Cardinals organization and Albert Pujols can reach an agreement on a new contract for the slugger by the end of this week.
Herzog said he does not think Pujols will receive a 10 year guaranteed contract, but he doesn't think any player should receive that kind of a contract. He compared players bodies to cars and said they break down over time.
The Cardinals and Pujols have until 11:00 a.m. Central Time to come to an agreement because Pujols has said he will not negotiate after he reports to spring training in Jupiter, Florida.
If a deal is not reached, the Cardinals would five days after the conclusion of the World Series to try to re-sign Pujols.
