Richmond Heights, Mo (KSDK) -- Members of a girl scout troop from Alton, Illinois made a special delivery to SSM St. Mary's Health Center in Richmond Heights on Thursday morning.

Troop 71 donated 26 handmade blankets and more than 100 onesies to the hospital-wide baby shower.

The baby shower project was started by a volunteer who recognized the need for more donations during these financially difficult times.

The scouts designed their blankets with both style and safety in mind.

"We thought of the NICU babies how they would maybe get their fingers tangled in the ribbon for the one over here, so we sewed this together, but we made this one small and we made it with just edges scalloped edges so their hands wouldn't get tangled in it," Sarah Gratton of Alton said.

The girl scouts were inspired by the birth of a 13 ounce baby at SSM Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center.

They earned their Bronze Award by completing their project.
