Chesterfield, MO (KSDK) - The St. Louis area is home to one of the 50 best hospitals in the country.
For the fifth consecutive year, St. Luke's Hospital in Chesterfield has been named one of America's 50 Best Hospitals, according to a nationwide independent analysis from HealthGrades. Every hospital on the list has demonstrated superior and sustained quality health care over an 11-year period, ranking among the top one percent of hospitals for clinical excellence.
Patients admitted to St. Luke's and the other hospitals on the list are more likely to have successful treatment without major complications.
St. Luke's Hospital was rated tops in Missouri for overall cardiac care and best in St. Louis for cardiac surgery last October.
To determine the 50 best hospitals, HealthGrades analyzed millions of Medicare patient records from 1999 through 2009 for 26 common medical procedures and conditions. The hospitals must have had risk-adjusted mortality and complication rates that were in the top five percent in the nation for several consecutive years.
Hospitals can opt in or out of being rated by HealthGrades at any time.
