Towson, MD (Sports Network) - Towson University announced Monday that men's head basketball coach Pat Kennedy has resigned his position, effective immediately.

The Tigers finished the 2010-11 campaign at 4-26 and were winless in 18 games in Colonial Athletic Association play.

Kennedy guided the program for seven seasons and compiled a record of 72-142. The Tigers best season under Kennedy was 2006-07 with a 15-17 mark and they finished under .500 in each of his campaigns.

"Pat Kennedy is a class act and a great basketball mind," athletic director Mike Waddell said. "It is unfortunate the past seven seasons have not met our mutual expectations. I am sure he will continue in the basketball world, as he should."

He has a career record of 488-545 and has taken teams to the NCAA Tournament on eight different occasions, including a trip to the Elite Eight in 1992-93 with Florida State. Kennedy has also made stops in DePaul and Montana, among others.
