BELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP) - A former Illinois State Police trooper blamed in a high-speed crash that killed two teenager sisters in southwestern Illinois is trying again to get workers' compensation for his injuries.

The Belleville News-Democrat reports that Matt Mitchell is appealing the denial of his claim in February. An arbitrator had ruled his leg injuries didn't arise from his state employment.

Mitchell wants a panel of commissioners to review Teague's ruling. That panel's decision will be final.

Authorities say Mitchell was traveling 126 mph in November 2007 when his police cruiser crossed the median and hit the oncoming car of two Collinsville sisters, who died at the scene.

Mitchell resigned last year after he pleaded guilty to two counts of reckless homicide in a deal for 30 months of probation.
