Chesterfield, Mo (KSDK) -- A local unit has joined the search for a missing plane in southeast Missouri, possibly near the Doniphan/Poplar Bluff area.

The missing aircraft is a Piper Navajo PA31, a twin engine, low wing aircraft.  It was flying from Arkansas to Wisconsin.

The Missouri Wing of the Civil Air Patrol, based at Malden Airport and Spirit of St. Louis Airport in Chesterfield, have joined the search.

Ground teams have also been activated for possible assistance.

Civil Air Patrol, the official auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force, is a nonprofit organization with more than 61,000 members nationwide. CAP, in its Air Force auxiliary role, performs 90 percent of continental U.S. inland search and rescue missions as tasked by the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center and was credited by the AFRCC with saving 113 lives in fiscal year 2010.
