Chouteau Island, IL (KSDK) - Thieves trying to escape capture by police at the Old Chain of Rocks Bridge crashed into a cop car, before taking off on foot.

This is the last of the three suspects taken into custody after a three-hour manhunt on Chouteau Island in Illinois. A Madison Police Officer responded to a theft in progress, after a dispatcher watched thieves break into a vehicle, taking purses and wallets from some ladies taking a walk across the Old Chain of Rocks Bridge. Turns out, the thieves were driving a stolen car, the one they crashed into the Madison police car.

The women say they're thankful to police.

"They did a great job, they caught everybody. They had the dogs out here. They kept everybody safe that was in the perimeter," Lori Stanton, one of the victims.

The police officer involved in the accident stayed on the scene, taking part in the manhunt that ended with the arrest of all three men.
