April 9, 2001: American Airlines buys TWA
KSDK - A legal challenge threatened to delay the party on this day, but in the end, American and TransWorld Airlines became one.
NewsChannel 5's Sharon Stevens spent the day at Lambert-St. Louis International Airport watching history in the making.
The celebration was almost interrupted by a group of TWA workers in Israel, who wanted the case sent back to federal bankruptcy court, but the appeals court turned them down.
Meanwhile, thousands of TWA employees in St. Louis joined with American Airlines workers to say "goodbye" and "hello."
