St. Louis, MO (KSDK) - Banker and civic leader Clifton Gates was appointed to the St. Louis police board on this date.

Gates told NewsChannel 5's Chris Condon he viewed his appointment by Missouri Governor Warren Hearnes as an opportunity to show that African-Americans can serve their community well.
