Granite City, IL (KSDK) - The force of the straight line winds were seen and felt throughout Granite City, at a distribution business, called P&S Amusement, witnesses say high winds lifted the rooftop eight feet into the air before dropping it off the side of the building into a neighbor's yard.

Throughout the city, tree limbs and power lines are down.

In one case, a large tree was blown on top of Jim Mang's house, causing damage to the roof and siding.

On one neighborhood street after another residents are pitching in cleaning up the tree damage. One group of Granite City neighbors is pitching in to remove a large tree blocking traffic.

"My wife was already screaming at me look, look, look, look at this, that whole tree was bending over and started to break off , that tree must have had 10 more branches, big ones that took it out all at once," said neighbor Jim Williams.

According to police, when the storm hit, winds knocked out power to 50 percent of Granite City.
