St. Louis, MO (KSDK) - NewsChannel 5, the Gannett-owned NBC affiliate in St. Louis, announced this morning its fall programming lineup, which will include 3 new locally-produced newscasts.

"For many years now our station brand has been Where the News Comes First," said Lynn Beall, President and General Manager of KSDK. "Our new fall lineup reaffirms our commitment that local news is indeed our station's priority."

Beginning Monday, September 12, NewsChannel 5 will launch 90 minutes of new local news content starting with Today in St. Louis, which will begin a half-hour earlier at 4:00 a.m. Following the third hour of NBC's Today Show, the station will launch a new hour-long morning newscast at 10:00 a.m. The final piece to the programming puzzle is in the afternoon with an all-new, first look at the day's news with NewsChannel 5 at 4.

"With the departure of Oprah, it gives our news organization the opportunity to create and deliver a totally new newscast for St. Louis," said Mike Shipley, KSDK News Director. "Our viewers' lives are in constant motion and continually changing, and we believe there's an audience and appetite for news and information in the afternoon. We want to provide that first look at the day's events and what people are talking about with NewsChannel 5 at 4."

On the heels of Oprah's farewell and the addition of local news content, the station's overall daytime schedule will have other significant changes as well. Show Me St. Louis, the 30-minute locally-produced program about the good things in our community, will move to 12:30 p.m. Other changes include

NBC's Days of Our Lives moving to 1:00 p.m. and a shuffling of syndicated programming, with Dr. Oz moving to 2:00 p.m. followed by Ellen at 3:00 p.m. Jeopardy will move to 4:30 p.m. following NewsChannel 5 at 4.

"Our station has had such a great relationship with Oprah over the years it's sad to see her say goodbye," Beall said. "But this new time period gives us another opportunity to serve an additional segment of our audience with news and information. Local news is in our DNA, and being the news leader in St. Louis is what we're all about. We're thrilled to be able to offer a new product and experience in the afternoon for our viewers at 4:00."

"We're up to the challenge of providing fresh and innovative content for these new local shows," Shipley said. "We're expanding resources within our Information Center in order to better serve our viewers and community. I'm excited about this additional investment in our product. It makes a bold statement about our future and the continued direction and strength of our station."
