St. Ann, MO (KSDK) - A 20-year-old St. Ann woman found shot to death was pregnant.
Tabitha Buckingham was found dead in her apartment on Sabourin Drive around 11:30 p.n. Tuesday.
Police are still looking for her killer.
Buckingham's family described her as a kind woman who was always smiling. They said this tragedy creates a big void in their family and now they're worried about the one-year-old daughter, Zakiyyah, Buckingham left behind.
Buckingham hadn't been seen or heard from since Sunday, according to police. She was shot in the head in her apartment and police said she was found lying on her bed with the one-year-old asleep next to her, unharmed.
St. Ann police got the call late Tuesday night. Buckingham's boyfriend found her.
Her family said she had big dreams and recently enrolled in vocational school, with hopes of becoming a nurse. They said this is a big tragedy for their family especially because Buckingham was pregnant with her second child.
"She just told us she was pregnant on Wednesday. She just told us she came back from the doctor and was two and a half months pregnant," said Crystal Huntspon, Buckingham's cousin.
"I hope justice will be done," said Patricia Perkins, Buckingham's aunt.
Police say they have some leads in the case. If you know anything you are encouraged to contact the St. Ann Police Department at 314-427-8000.
Buckingham's funeral will be on Friday, June 3. The family has set up a fund for Zakiyyah. If you would like to help, you can mail or drop off checks to the Ronald L. Jones Funeral Chapels located at 2161 E. Fair Ave, St. Louis, MO 63107. For more information call 314-563-4431.
