St. Louis (KSDK) -- One by one every Monday they stroll in, set up and tune-up. It's a sight that brings back memories for Michael Hoyer who taught middle school band for 32 years.

"Well, you do see some personalities that carry over from middle school," explains Hoyer.

Only this group is a little more mature.

"I started after I retired, so 61, 62," explains Jim Morrow.

This group is also more eager to learn even at 86 and 90 years old.

"We had never played before, never," explains Beatrice and George Lamb. By the way she's 86 and he's 90.

Together they're known as the Oasis band, a group that plays a couple of concerts a year for family and friends.

"I always loved the clarinet I just didn't know it was so hard," Beatrice Lamb adds.

"Breathe together 1,2,3,4," instructs Hoyer.

Truth be told, this band is less concerned about the right notes and more concerned with just staying active.

"I think there's a movement of keeping older people active and music is one of the best brain exercises around," Hoyer explains.

"It's kind of fun to work on stuff and see if you can play and how bad you sound at the end," Morrow adds.

"It's a social thing and it's an achievement," adds George Lamb.

And that should be music to our ears at any age.
