St. Louis (KSDK) -- A pregnant woman and another passenger died when the Buick Regal they were in crashed into a tree after police stopped pursuing it.
St. Louis police said an officer tried to stop the speeding vehicle, but the person kept driving. The officer called off the pursuit.
Witnesses said the fleeing vehicle was speeding on Goodfellow when it ran a stoplight at Natural Bridge. The vehicle then flew about 25 yards through the air and crashed into a tree.
Darshay Brandon, a 19-year-old female from St. Louis was prounced dead at the scene.
31-year-old DeJesus Stuart from St. Louis was pronounced dead at the hospital.
A 20-year-old driver of the vehicle was taken to the hospital in serious condition.
Police said they recovered a gun from the vehicle but it is still un clear at this time why the driver was fleeing from police.
