St. Louis, Mo (KSDK) - A pavilion in Carondolet Park is smoldering Tuesday evening, but just a few hours ago it was the sight of a frightening scene for firefighters.
The pavilion was engulfed as they brought in hoses to try to keep the fire from spreading. That's when the structure collapses with firefighters just feet away.
One firefighter pulled another out of the way just in time and they stumbled backwards. No one was hurt, but the gazebo was a total loss.
Firefighters said it will be tough to determine a cause since the gazebo was so badly damaged.
Just last Sunday night, the Bob Kuban Band performed and it brought a big crowd. Now, city leaders are trying to figure out what to do with the series.
Alderman Fred Wessels said they don't plan to cancel any of the upcoming shows. He's hoping the parks department will bring their mobile band stand and hold the concerts from the same location. Park officials said the fire could not have come at a worse time.
