Houston, TX (CNN) - A 12-year-old boy is recovering after being attacked by a shark in Texas. It happened Thursday and the boy has already undergone several surgeries.
"All I could think about was hurry up and get him to safety," said Cecil Vossler, whose son was attacked by a shark.
Vossler and his family were at their beach house when he says his 12-year-old son Nicholas was attacked by a shark while swimming.
"He said he felt it grab his leg. I mean, his foot, and start, ya know, yanking on it. He saw the shark," Vossler said.
In seconds, he said the bull shark clamped its teeth into his son's left foot, nearly ripping it off.
"I had to put the skin back across his foot and take my shirt off, and get it wrapped because the arteries were...he was bleeding out," Vossler said.
The attack happened Thursday evening off the coast of Sunday Beach near Port O'Connor.
"My friend was right there with him, and he grabbed him as the shark was trying to pull him," Vossler said.
Once he was pulled from the water, Nicholas was taken by boat to a helicopter, which transported him to Memorial Hermann Hospital, where he is slowly recovering.
"When he got on the boat, he asked his mom to pray with him. Once we started praying, it was okay," Vossler said.
The boy has at least three more surgeries ahead of him.
