La Salle, Texas (CNN) -- A Texas teen claims he shot and killed a chupacabra.
Biologists suspect the hairless animals are actually sick coyotes or another wild animal, but some believe they are a vampire-like creature that suck the blood of livestock.
Carter Pope said he spotted a strange animal as it walked across the field and started shaking.
Carter ran to get his dad and his father was amazed by what he saw 200 feet away. Carter grabbed his gun and fired three shots before the possible chupacabra stopped moving.
He and his father collected hair and skin samples from the animal to get tested.
Stories of alleged chupacabra stings have been around for years and pictures surface regularly on the Internet.
