St. Louis (KSDK) - Police officers and United Way volunteers met at city hall this morning to prepare to go door-to-door to check on the elderly and other vulnerable residents.

The St. Louis area is under an Excessive Heat Warning until Saturday evening. When temperatures rise to this level, it is dangerous for everyone, but the very young and the elderly need to be even more cautious.

Measures should be taken to stay safe in this weather. If you don't have a working air conditioner, contact the United Way at 1-800-427-4626, or dial 211 from a landline to find a cooling shelter near you. Cool Down St. Louis can help with utility bills and help provide an air conditioner. They can be reached at 314-241-7668.
