Clayton, MO (KSDK) - A former Country Club Hills police officer has been charged with a felony for abusing his power.
Court documents state 48-year-old Timothy Jones of Troy, Missouri was taken into custody Wednesday, and charged Thursday morning.
Authorities say Jones pulled over a 24-year-old female in November 2010 for suspicion of drunk driving near the intersection of Lucas and Hunt and West Florissant roads.
He gave her a field sobriety test, and allegedly told her he could arrest her or she could have sex with him.
Jones then drove her to her home where they engaged in several sexual acts.
Police say they found out what happened when they found a cell phone inside of Jones' patrol car. When they tried to figure out who it belonged to, they reached the woman's mother who made accusations about what happened.
"It was shocking, that's for sure. You never want to think that an officer can be involved in anything like that," said Country Club Hills Police Chief Clifton Ware.
Jones had worked for the police department for a little more than a year. He had previously been employed with the Jennings Police Department.
Jones stayed on the force for most of the investigation, but resigned a couple of months ago without explanation.
