St. Louis (KSDK) - Several St. Louis Cardinals got a lesson in courage today! They visited young patients at Shriners Hospital for Children who are recovering from orthopedic surgeries.
Katie Ladlie, 13, was excited. She was in the same room with Cardinals players Kyle Lohse, Skip Schumaker and Nick Punto.
All three players autographed Katie's prosthetic leg.
Two months ago Newschannel 5 followed Katie through a process in which her left leg was amputated. Katie made the decision to have her leg removed after numerous surgeries for rare birth defect.
Now she has a new leg and she's back in the eighth grade at Troy Middle School in Missouri.
"I'm getting along pretty good. I think I'm working very hard and things are going well," said Katie.
The players said they were happy to be at Shriners to meet and greet Katie and other kids.
"They're professional baseball players and they dreamed about that and it shows kids what they can grow up to be like," said Katie.
