Fairview Heights, IL (KSDK) - Fairview Heights, Illinois police officers arrested three people early Monday morning on methamphetamine charges.

Around 12:05 a.m. officers saw a female acting strangely near a cabin at the French Village motel in the 9800 block of West State Route 161.

Police knocked on the door where the woman said she was staying, and a second female opened the door. A cloud of smoke escaped from the room, but she didn't have an explanation as to where the smoke came from.

Officers suspected the smoke was a byproduct of an active methamphetamine lab.

After an investigation, police arrested 22-year-old Katherine Brinkley of Waterloo, 34-year-old Melissa Charlton of Valmeyer, and 21-year-old John Fosnock of Cahokia.

All three were charged with aggravated participation in methamphetamine manufacturing, unlawful possession of methamphetamine, and unlawful possession of methamphetamine manufacturing materials.

Each suspect is held on a $100,000 bond at the St. Clair County jail.
