Santa Fe, NM (KOAT/CNN) - Strapped, loaded and in uniform. A New Mexico State Police officer is caught on camera having sex on top of a car in public.
His boss says he didn't break the law, but his ethics may be questionable.
The pictures seen around the world: a New Mexico state police officer in full uniform, gun holster and all, having sex with a woman on the hood of her car, snapped by a county surveillance camera.
"At this time, the internal investigation has been completed and it's pending disciplinary action," said Sgt. Tim Johnson with the New Mexico State Police
As soon as the police chief saw the pictures, he immediately launched an internal investigation and the officer was placed on paid administrative leave.
He now has 30 days to appeal and because of that process, so many questions still remain.
"They have due process and it would be violating their rights if we were to get into all the details of the who, what, where, when and how at this point," said Johnson.
While the police chief isn't able to talk about any of the details at this point because of that process, he does say the internal investigation shows that what happened here at La Bajada Ranch was not criminal.
"At this point we don't think anything criminal has occurred," said Johnson.
Not criminal, but not common sense either, according to officials who don't want the public to paint the entire department with the same brush.
"There's 400 plus employees working very hard to keep the citizens of this state protected and safe and they are making good decisions every day," said Johnson.
