De Soto, MO (KSDK) - Two young boys were struck by a car Wednesday morning while crossing a street to board a school bus.

According to the De Soto Police Department, the incident happened before 8 a.m. in the 200 block of Amvets Drive in Jefferson County.

The victims, ages six and eight, were taken to Children's and St. Anthony's hospitals, respectively.  Their injuries have not been disclosed.  The eight-year-old was treated and released from the hospital just hours after the incident.

Police said the driver did not stop at the stop sign arm on the bus.  Witnesses at the scene tell NewsChannel 5 they suspect that sunshine might have contributed to the accident.

The person who struck the boys, a 22-year-old woman, did not immediately stop at the scene, but was apparently so distraught she eventually pulled over and contacted family, who then called police.

Authorities said the woman will likely not be charged with hit and run since she did reach out to tell someone.  She is being questioned by police.
