East St. Louis, IL (KSDK) - East St. Louis Police Chief Ranadore Foggs tells NewsChannel 5 that he alerted Mayor Alvin Parks his intentions to step down.

Foggs, a retired Illinois State Police Captain, took over the department in May.

Parks says he tried to talk the chief out of resigning.

"He was thinking that we may have some differences with the way that we look at the department philosophically and there were other reasons and I don't want to get into those in a public setting here," Parks said. "That conversation was rather private."

Mayor Parks plans to name a new police chief in the next couple of days.
