St. Louis (KSDK) - Rallying around the Rally Squirrel is proving beneficial to Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center.

The hospital's foundation is making more money off this squirrel than imagined, and it's all for a good cause.

Around $210,000 has been raised so far from "Rally Squirrel for Cardinal Glennon" t-shirts, hats and tails. The idea came from Dan Buck, Executive Director of Cardinal Glennon Foundation. His Communications Manager, Rose Fogarty, will never forget how it started.

"He storms in like Kramer on Seinfeld and he says 'I have an idea!' I'm like, here we go!'" said Fogarty.

"I said there's an opportunity in that little squirrel running across the field," said Buck.

But Buck never guessed the wild ride the rally squirrel would take them on.

"When Anheuser-Busch said, 'we'll pay for all the first wave so you can do this at no risk'. It was at that point, a no brainer," said Buck.

Select Anheuser-Busch retailers are selling them, such as Syberg's and Helen Fitzgerald's. The demand? They just didn't see that coming.

"We have 150 people in line around noon, wrapped around the whole inside of the building just waiting to get t-shirts," said Syberg's.

Amazing how a simple little scamper across home plate could one day bring so much joy to a child's life.

"This is an existing rooftop above the Bob Costas Cancer Center now. It's just a big patio pavilion currently. We're going to bring in all kinds of interactive, motor skills type things for our patients," said Buck. "It's got a greenhouse where the kids who are going to be with us for several months at a time can actually plant some items and watch them grow."

If the Cardinals go to the World Series, Cardinal Glennon Children's Foundation will be rolling out new merchandise.

"A design for an amazing shirt, if and when we make it to the World Series, that says 'Squirreled Serious'," said Buck.
