St. Louis (KSDK) -- Millions of people will jump online for Cyber Monday looking for the best online shopping deals.

You need to take a few steps to ensure your information is safe.

Datotel president David Brown joined NewsChannel 5's Dana Dean and Courtney Gousman to discuss how you can tell if the site your are visiting is secure.

TIPS

-Look for the "S" for security - make sure when completing an online transaction that the website URL starts with HTTPS

-Stay current on security software - ensure your virus software is up-to-date

-Think before you link - Be aware of misspellings and links that use a different top-level domain, such as .net instead of .com

-Keep your private info private - an ecommerce site should never need your social security number

-Mix up your passwords

-Check bank and credit card statements

-If a deal looks too good to be true, it probably is
