Wrightsville Beach, NC (WCET) -- A Boston man will not forget what he saw during his Thanksgiving visit to southern North Carolina.
Matt Garrett captured video from a fishing trip with friends that could give you chills. His iPhone video shows an 18-foot Great White shark circling their boat.
"You think it's two dolphins or something," said Garrett. "Two dolphins pretty far apart. Those two dolphins turned out to be one giant shark."
Paul Barrington from the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher confirmed it is a Great White.
"I was jealous. I was envious. I would love to be in that position," said Barrington.
He said it is rare to see the sharks off the North Carolina coast, but sightings do happen.
"They did the right thing. They didn't harass it. They took some excellent video of it. And they are very fortunate. That's something that they will never forget," said Barrington.
Barrington said the shark was likely curious about the boat and fishing activity.
The shark's curiosity went a step further.
"He was going straight for us, like T-boned, about to T-bone us. And he nudged us with his nose, turned around very quickly and slapped the side of the boat with his tail," said Garrett.
