(KSDK) The St. Louis Cardinals announced a new two-year deal with second baseman Skip Schumaker Monday night, prior to the 11 p.m. deadline.
The team also asnnounced they had tendered contracts for 2012 pitchers Kyle McClellan and Jason Motte, but did not offer a deal to shortstop Ryan Theriot so he becomes a free agent.
The 31-year old Schumaker is a career .290 hitter after hitting .283 for the 2011 World Champions. He spent time at second base, the outfield, and even pitched this past season.
He will probably be used as a utility player for new manager Mike Matheny in 2012.
