St. Louis (KSDK) - An over-the-counter asthma inhaler has been pulled off store shelves, but not because of health concerns.
Primatene Mist was pulled off shelves on January 1 because the inhalers contain CFC's, a propellant that is harmful to the ozone layer.
Primatene Mist is the only FDA approved over-the-counter epinephrine inhaler on the market. Patients who used this inhaler need to see their doctor to get a prescription for a replacement inhaler.
The Asthma & Allergy Foundation of St. Louis can help low-income families pay for new inhalers if they qualify for the assistance program.
