North St. Louis County (KSDK) - An argument that turned violent is believed to be the motive behind a fatal shooting at a home in unincorporated north St. Louis County Tuesday afternoon.
On Thursday, St. Louis County prosecutors charged 62-year-old Ernest Maxwell with second-degree murder and armed criminal action for allegedly killing his 23-year-old son, Ernest Maxwell Jr.
According to police, officers were called to a home in the 200 block of Northport Hills Drive near the Florissant city boundary around 4:40 p.m.
Officers arrived at the home which belongs to the elder Maxwell, and found the victim with a bullet wound.
Ernest Maxwell Jr. was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later. Police took the man's father into custody.
Authorities say evidence indicates the two men were involved in a series of disputes in the days leading up to the shooting, and the victim has recently moved out of his father's home just prior to the shooting.
Maxwell remains jailed on a $250,000 bond.
