(CNN) - Who better to tackle the nation's slumping economy than an economics professor?
That's what Laurence Kotlikoff is betting on.
The Boston University economics professor says he's planning to run for president as a third-party candidate.
Look for an official announcement next week.
Kotlikoff has never before run for public office, but he does have some political experience.
He was a senior economist for the Reagan administration and also served as an economic adviser to former U.S. Senator Mike Gravel.
Kotlikoff has launched a campaign web site, kotlikoff2012.org.
He plans to file an official statement of candidacy with the Federal Election Commission next week.
