St. Clair, Missouri (KSDK) - Four people in a single car were injured early Tuesday when the vehicle left the roadway, went airborne and slammed into a tree.
Missouri State Highway Patrol officials have not commented on whether evidence indicated a hill jumping stunt; however, the driver was cited for driving while intoxicated.
Troopers say the driver, 19-year-old Dylan Sheldon, of St. Clair, was driving southbound on Peacock Road at excessive speed for the road conditions while cresting a hill just south of Springfield Road.
Sheldon lost control of his 2002 Volkswagon, forcing the car off the left side of the pavement while still in the air. It crashed into a tree and flipped over several times.
The vehicle ended up on its top in the ditch. Sheldon was seriously hurt in the crash.
Three passengers riding with Sheldon were also injured. They were identified by troopers as 19-year-old Dalton Conway, 20- year-old Tyler Kennedy, and 20-year-old Daniel Holmes, all of St. Clair.
All four of the victim remain hospitalized. Authorities are expected to apply for warrant against Sheldon for assault and armed criminal action in the crash.
