Portland, OR (Sports Network) - Charles Odum netted a game-high 29 points,
as the Portland State Vikings recorded an 80-68 win over the Idaho State
Bengals in Big Sky Conference play at the Stott Center.
Odum, who was 10-of-18 from the floor, was joined in double figures by
Chehales Tapscott, who finished with 15 points and Lateef McMullan and Renado
Parker, who checked in with 10 points apiece. Portland State (9-9, 3-3 BSC)
won its second straight game and third in the last four to pull even on the
season overall and in-conference.
Idaho State (4-14, 2-4) got strong performances by Kenny McGowen and Chase
Grabau, who combined for 38 points. McGowen was 6-of-15 from the floor and 6-
of-7 from the free-throw line to lead Idaho State with 20 points. Grabau
finished with 18 points, on 8-of-11 shooting from the floor. Abner Moreira
just missed a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds for the Bengals,
who dropped their fourth game in the last five outings.
The Vikings shot a mere 36.7 percent from the floor in the first half, but
were 8-of-10 from the free-throw line to keep the score tied 32-32 at
intermission. The Bengals shot 46.2 percent from the floor in the first half,
but couldn't pull away from PSU.
The Vikings found their range after the break, hitting on 63.2 percent from
the floor (12-of-19) and really took advantage of their opportunities at the
free-throw line, hitting 21-of-26 free-throw attempts over the final 20
minutes of action.
Both teams finished with 31 rebounds in the game. Portland State was able to
force 16 turnovers and outscored Idaho State at the free-throw line, 29-11.
