Cottage Hills, Ill (KSDK) -- An 11-year-old girl found her mom's heroin capsules and turned them over to a family member, according to the Madison County Sheriff's Office.

The Madison County Circuit Attorney's Office said Nicole Edwards, 31, was charged with endangering the life and health of a child and two counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

Investigators said Edwards' daughter found the capsules on a dresser in the family's home.  She reportedly showed Edwards the capsules and was told they were vitamins.

The child took the capsules to family members who then turned them over to the sheriff's office.

The sheriff's office said Edwards crashed her car into a parked car in the first block of Ray Street in Cottage Hills at 11:49 a.m. Friday.  Investigators searched the vehicle and found 37 heroin capsules and took her into custody.
