Cahokia, IL (KSDK) - A VFW hall in Cahokia, Illinois was destroyed in a fire Monday afternoon.
Firefighters were called to the hall in the 600 block of Water Street around noon, and by 12:30 the fire was out of control.
Nearly 100 firefighters from 20 departments were involved in fighting the fire.
One problem responders faced was the location of the nearest fire hydrant, which is nearly half a mile away. Hoses were run to the hydrant, but the water pressure was too weak.
Tankers and pumpers were brought in, but they could not save the building.
Crews were evacuated at one point because the roof collapsed.
Nobody was injured.
The commander of the VFW post says they are fully insured and says they will rebuild.
There's no word on what caused the fire.
