East St. Louis, IL (KSDK) - A Jerseyville, Illinois woman was sentenced Tuesday for bank fraud.
Mary S. Becker, 57, is the former vice president of Jersey State Bank, and she was sentenced to 63 months in prison, five years of supervised release, mandatory restitution of $4.4 million, and a $100 special assessment.
Court documents state the bank fraud took place from 2003 through January of 2011 in Jersey County, Illinois.
Property traced to the bank fraud was turned over to Jersey State Bank and included two condominiums in Osage Beach, Missouri, a 38' boat, vehicles, trailers, motorcycles, and bank stock. Additional assets belonging to Becker will be forfeited.
Authorities say Becker transferred funds electronically from the bank's accounts to her own accounts, inflated expenses to a prepaid expense account and then transferred the funds to her account, and took money from a certificate of deposit and concealed the money in the bank's general ledger.
She also provided false information in monthly reports to the Board. She also provided false information to FDIC examiners and to state bank examiners.
Becker had worked for Jersey State Bank since 1976. During her employment, she held various positions from assistant cashier to executive vice president. Her responsibilities included being in charge of the bank's general ledger, the corresponding accounts, and regularly provided reports to the president and board members as to the bank's assets, stability, and financial soundness.
