St. Louis (KSDK) -- It's hard for any world championship ring to go unnoticed, especially when we're talking about a Super Bowl ring.
Each diamond-studded ring has intricate details with special meaning, and for some, a special history.
For example, Chicago Bears Defensive Lineman William "The Refrigerator" Perry had a size 25 Super Bowl ring. He holds the title of the biggest championship ring ever made. It's the equivalent to a half dollar.
Running back Walter Payton was also part of that 1985 Championship Bears team. He lost his Super Bowl ring in 1996, but it was later found in a couch of a Purdue student and returned to the family in 2001.
After Sunday's Super Bowl XLVI, the New England Patriots may add another ring to their collection.
The Patriot's championship ring from Super Bowl XXXIX weighs 4.06 oz and 124 diamonds. When you set it on its edge, it rocks back and fourth to signify team symmetry and balance.
So, how much do these rings cost and who pays for them?
The NFL pays for the cost of 150 rings to the winning team, at roughly $5,000 per ring. That price also varies depending on the fluctuating cost of gold and diamonds.
Some Super Bowl rings have parted ways with their owners fetching over $100,000, so they're a pretty pricey piece of memorabilia.
