Benton, IL (KSDK) - A Cobden, Illinois man was sentenced Thursday for conspiracy to distribute heroin.

Roberto Alaniz, also known as "Berto", was sentenced to 37 months in prison, three years of supervised release, and was fined $300.

Court documents state 28-year-old Alaniz pleaded guilty to the charge.

Authorities say between December 2008 and May 17, 2010 Alaniz was involved with others in the distribution of heroin in Union and Jackson counties.

During sentencing, the district court found that Alaniz was responsible for the distribution of 72 grams of heroin.

Four co-defendants have previously been sentenced for their role in the conspiracy.
