East St. Louis, IL (KSDK) - A 40-year-old Granite City, Illinois man pleaded guilty Thursday to unlawful possession of a firearm by a previously convicted felon.

Court documents state Derrick Williams permitted DEA agents to search his home on November 4, 2012. During the search Williams stated he had a firearm in a bedroom.

When agents went to the bedroom they found a small plastic bag filled with marijuana on the nightstand. Williams admitted the marijuana was his and told agents the firearm was under the mattress.

A Granit City police officer removed a black Glock 26 handgun from underneath the mattress. A magazine inside the gun was loaded with 10 rounds of ammunition.

Williams then admitted it was his bed the gun was found under, and that he was a convicted felon and knew it was illegal for him to posses the firearm.
