Jefferson City, MO (KSDK) - A Boone County grand jury handed down a 136-count indictment against a Georgia mortgage company and its founder for alleged forgery and making false declarations on mortgage documents, Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster said Tuesday.

The indictment alleges that Lorraine Brown, founder and former president of DOCX, signed another person's name on 68 notarized deeds of release on behalf of a lender. Those documents were then submitted to the Boone County Recorder of Deeds as though they were genuine.

The attorney general's office had spent months investigating a robo-signing scandal that resulted in thousands of questionable mortgage documents flooding the real estate market. When this practice was brought to light, several major lenders temporarily suspended foreclosures in 2010.

If convicted, Lorraine Brown could face up to seven years in prison on each count. DOCX could be fined up to $10,000 for each forgery charge and $2,000 for each false declaration charge.
