Belleville, IL (KSDK) - Illinois Governor Pat Quinn joined state and local officials for the groundbreaking of a new forensic laboratory for the Illinois State Police in Belleville.
The $37.8 million lab is expected to create 260 jobs and provide state-of-the-art forensic capability for state police. The 64,100 square-foot facility will be located on land purchased in 2007 from Lindenwood University.
For more than two decades, the Illinois State Police leased 15,000 square-feet of office space as its laboratory in Fairview Heights. That space can no longer accommodate the ISP's technological needs, growing casework and staffing needs.
