St. Louis, MO (KSDK) - There could be changes on the way for St. Louis County farmers markets.
A bill first introduced last month was discussed at Tuesday night's county council meeting. It would create a new farmers market vendor permit, which would be good for seven months instead of the current 14 day permits.
The proposal will only affect those vendors who are cutting, prepping, or cooking food for sampling or selling. It will have no affect on farmers selling raw agricultural products.
County leaders said there has been incorrect information about how long farmers markets could operate under the proposal. St. Louis County Health Department director, Dr. Delores Gunn, said farmers markets could operate year round and not just 7 months as some opponents have suggested.
The bill will be voted on at a later date.
