JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - The Missouri Supreme Court is considering whether a suburban school district must enroll a student from St. Louis.

The high court heard arguments Wednesday on a case related to a Missouri law that allows students from unaccredited districts to transfer to accredited districts. State lawmakers also are considering how to implement or revise that law. Three school systems in Kansas City and St. Louis are unaccredited.

In 2010, a teenager's family sued to force St. Louis County's Webster Groves School District to enroll her in its high school. A judge granted the request last June. The district appealed, and the student was not enrolled.

Webster Groves says the St. Louis School District should be a party in the lawsuit because it would have to pay the student's tuition and transportation.
