Shiloh, Owner: Mary Kramer
Shiloh, a chocolate Labrador retriever, was brought to the Humane Society of Missouri in September, 2010, emaciated with most of his hair missing because he had been chained, caged and neglected. While Shiloh was recovering, Mary, who has Multiple Sclerosis, was dealing with the loss of her current service dog, and the death of her retired service dog. Her search for a new dog led her to Shiloh. Mary was amazed by his sweetness and attentiveness. He had no phobias about her wheelchair and is the perfect partner.
Cally, Owner: Andrea Hartman
Eleven-year-old Andrea and her family adopted Cally, a Pembroke Welsh corgi, two years ago. Little did they know it would prove to be a lifesaving event. Andrea has diabetes and needs her blood sugar to be at a certain level at all times. One day Andrea was watching TV and Cally started barking and wouldn't stop. Andrea got up and suddenly realized her blood sugar was very low - too low. Cally continues to help Andrea monitor her blood sugar, and is a heroic and helpful companion.
GI Joe, Owner: Angela Peacock
GI Joe, a black Lab mix, was donated to a rescue organization for his reckless puppy tendencies, in hopes they could train him to be more adoptable. While he was being trained, Angela was told she needed a service dog to help her with painful arthritic conditions and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder from her service in the U.S. Army in Baghdad, Iraq. When she met GI Joe and trained with him, Angela's life was changed forever. Before GI Joe, Angela rarely left the house. Now, three years later, with GI Joe's help, Angela is a college student. GI Joe eases Angela's conditions, and brings her many smiles. They are bonded for life.
