Belleville (KSDK) - A Belleville high school student is accusing a former teacher of inappropriate conduct and police are now investigating.
Belleville police confirm they've launched an investigation surrounding a male teacher that used to work at Belleville West High.
On Wednesday, NewsChannel 5 talked with Dr. Jeff Dosier, Superintendent of the Belleville Township High School District 201.
Dr. Dosier says the man being investigated no longer works with the district, but would not say how or when the teacher left.
The superintendent says once district officials learned of the allegations, Illinois' Department of Children and Family Services was notified, along with Belleville police.
An automated call went out to the parents of both Belleville West and East students Wednesday afternoon to inform them of the allegations.
District officials say the case is relatively new, and police say they are actively investigating the allegations.
"The accusations are upsetting. The safety of our students is of the utmost importance and that's going to be our focus. We will have counselors available for any students.... parents for that matter who want to talk about this issue," said Dr. Dosier.
The superintendent says since the news went out to parents, he's received a number of calls from concerned parents, but his answers have been limited due to the investigation.
Belleville police say have been talking with the victim, and are encouraging parents to talk with their kids, and report any other possible victims.
So far, no charges have been filed in this case.
