Harrisburg, IL (KSDK)-- FEMA, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, is denying disaster aid to Harrisburg and other Southern Illinois communities ravaged by an EF-4 Tornado on February 29.
Seven people were killed and 100 injured.
One-hundred homes were destroyed and another 400 homes were damaged.
Senator Dick Durbin said Sunday he plans to appeal the decision because if it isn't reversed, the amount of federal aid the communities could seek would be limited.
Senator Durbin and Senator Mark Kirk asked for a meeting with the FEMA administrator to talk about the declaration being denied.
Governor Pat Quinn's office said it has not made a decision if it will file an appeal. He has 30 days to file it.
